Hohai University

Hohai University, established in 1915, wins its worldwide reputation for research and study of water conservancy. The history of Hohai University can be traced back to Hohai Civil Engineering School, which was established by Zhang Jian, and it was the first institution focusing on research and education of water conservancy in China. Under the background of the national colleges and departments adjustment in 1952, East China Technical University of Water Resources was founded on the basis of water related disciplines of Nanjing University, Tongji University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Zhejiang University, which made it famous with excellent faculty and notable achievement. It was renamed Hohai University in 1985, and Mr. Deng Xiaoping inscribed the name of the University.

Located in Nanjing, the capital city of ancient China, Hohai University includes other two beautiful campuses, Changzhou and Jiangning, taking up an area of about 1,533,333 square meters. Hohai University is an ideal place to study with its beautiful scenery and tree-lined campus.

Hohai University is a state key university under the direct administration of Ministry of Education of China. It is a comprehensive university with research and study of water conservancy as its main focus, education of engineering subjects as its first priority, and coordinated development of many disciplines covering engineering, science, economics, management, liberal arts, and law. .It is also among the group of universities to benefit from Project 211.

The university offers 52 undergraduate majors, and awards first-level class master degrees in 34 disciplines, second-level class master degrees in 185 disciplines. It also has 9 research bases for post-doctoral students, first-level class Ph.D degrees in 12 disciplines while second-level class in 57. Among these, there is a first-level class key discipline--Hydrology, Hydraulic Engineering,designated by Chinese government and 7 are designated as second–level class key disciplines. In addition, 4 disciplines are recognized as first-level class key disciplines at the provincial level, and 9 as second–level class key disciplines. Hohai University has 10 key laboratories, 7 national engineering research centers above provincial and ministerial level. Among them, Hydrology,Hydraulic Engineering, and Civil Engineering related disciplines are among the top ones in China, it is especially true with the former. Hohai University has a current 19871 undergraduates.

Hohai University has extensive ties to other universities and research institutes,and is one of the first universities in China qualified to award bachelor,master and doctor degrees to international students, and it also has conducted exchanges or other kinds of collaborative activities with more than 70 universities and research institutes from the United States, United Kingdom, France, Russia,Germany, Holland, Australia, Japan and Hong Kong. Thousands of international students from over 90 countries in Africa, Asia, America, Europe, and Oceania have completed their studies in Hohai University. To encourage high-caliber international students to study at Hohai, the University established Hohai Scholarship for International Students in 2005.
